Teen Challenge International of Mid-America in Cape Girardeau, MO is a long term, residential, Christian program that ministers to men with drug, alcohol and other addictions. We are part of a worldwide network of ministries that include about 200 centers in the U.S. and approximately 1060 throughout the world. We minister to young men ages 16 and above. Because addiction knows no age boundary, we minister to men in their 20’s, 30’s, 40’s and even older. Most are in their 20’s and 30’s. We typically have between 130-140 or more stdents who are with us for ten months at a time. In a single year we typically minister to around 330 young men. We minister to the men academically through Bible and Bible-related classes and GED studies. We provide support for their emotional needs through pastoral counseling provided by our staff. They are given practical tools for life through our General Work Experience program. Spiritual needs are addressed through chapel and church services, prayer times and through the Turning Point small group ministry. Studies through the years on Teen Challenge have consistently shown a 70% to 86% sucess rate in helping men stay off drugs. In 1997, Dr. Aaron Bicknese did a study of graduates of TCIMA and two other centers and found that 86.4% of the graduates studied had been abstinent from drugs in the six months prior to the interview. There is one word, or rather, a one person explanation for our sucess:Jesus. Our program is based on the principle that only Christ can change a life. Our major goal is to help the student develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and learn how to apply that relationship to every aspect of life. Our impact often goes well beyond the student in the program. Many families are reconciled and touched as well. TCIMA benefits society when these transformed addicts are no longer committing crimes to support their habits, no longer need to be incarcerated and become productive citizens in society. Home
